The Fire Scout locates and observes suspicious ground activities. Its laser illuminates’ targets for laser-guided weapons operators.
The first of five RQ-8A Fire Scout autonomous VTUAVs (Vertical Takeoff and Landing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) first flew autonomously in January 2000.
PRNAMA’s BuNo 166414 was the third RQ-8A built. It was retired on 30 September 2011.
Most RQ-8A ground and flight testing was performed at NAS Patuxent River.
