The Demonstrator was built to evaluate design concepts and flying qualities.
The X-35C landed at NAS Patuxent River for the first time on 10 February 2001, and was moved to the PRNAM Flight Line in April 2003.
The X-35C first flew on 16 December 2000 from Palmdale California to Edwards AFB.
It flew 73 times for a total of 58 flight hours. It’s highest speed was Mach 1.22.
