A-1 The Triad
Quick Facts
Quick Facts
The Curtiss A-1 Triad was the US Navy’s first aircraft. It was purchased on July 1911.
The A-1 was called the Triad because it could operate in the air, on the land (taxiing and beaching), and on the water.
Pilots found that the A-1 flew better without the forward bowheader control surface.
PRNAM’s Curtiss A-1 the Triad full-scale model replica was built by Chapter 478 of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) here in St. Mary’s County, and took over 11 years to research and build.
